General Summary
This role is reserved for the new graduate or nurse with less than 12 months experience. The nurse will utilize this time to learn the
institution and nursing practice. It is expected that a nurse in this role successfully all requirements of the Nurse Residency Program
and Departmental Orientation. Utilizes Relationship Based Care and the Nursing Process as the frame of reference for practice as a
professional nurse. Participates in activities to develop own practice, and to support professional practice goals at the unit level.
Functions effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team. Strives to provide an environment where patients, families,
and colleagues collaborate in the delivery of care. Is accountable to patient, family and team members for care provided and to the
nurse manager for totality of work performance. Is accountable to hold to the Service Standards and to the Nursing Mission, Vision
and Values.

Reports to Nurse Manager/Charge Nurse of unit to which assigned.

Working Conditions
Works inside a clean, well-lighted environment.May be exposed to frequent interruptions and multiple crisis situations. May be physically or verbally abused by patients. Expected to work on rotating shifts including weekends and holidays as necessary. May be expected to work on other than regular unit to provide adequate staffing, if the need arises. Participates in temporary assignment measures of department of Nursing. Potential for regular exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials, requiring the observance of Standard (Universal) Precautions and safe handling practices. This position has been classified as medium exposure risk and requires the completion of an annual respirator mask fitting.
Physical Requirements
Standing, sitting, bending and walking is required 0-5 hours/shift. Involves heavy lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling (up to and in
excess of 100 lbs.) 0-3 hours/shift, in accordance with Safe Patient Lifting policy. Includes reaching for, fingering, grasping and
handling equipment/supplies 0-3 hours/shift. Requires hearing/listening to differentiate sounds 0-3 hours/shift. Visual acuity is
necessary to read labels, charts, documents and use various instruments 0-3 hours/shift.
